Newschool Builders has grown over the years into a team of solid craftsmen. With this crew, Newschool has taken on bigger ventures and everyone feels honored to be working on these exciting projects around Vermont.
Blake started swinging a hammer at the age of 16 for a friend’s father while in high school. Soon after this exposure to the trade he realized that construction was a field he wanted to pursue. Blake worked throughout school, taking advantage of a work-study program to graduate early, which then allowed him to strive for a career in building. After working for several contractors in the Central Vermont area he migrated to Western Massachusetts to become more emerged in the trade, while gaining knowledge and experience. After building for several years in Western Mass, Blake studied and passed the Construction Supervisor’s Exam. With an unrestricted building license at the ripe age of 20, he was one of the youngest ever to achieve the highest level in the Massachusetts licensing program.
After spending time on various projects himself, and for other general contractors, Blake returned to Vermont to accept a position as a project manager for a flourishing modular/prefab company. After several years of prefab and modular home construction Blake felt an urge to return to the highly demanding and rewarding field of high-end custom home building and remodeling, independently founding Newschool Builders DBA.
Blake spends most of his free time outdoors. He has chased fish with a fly rod extensively in the US and around the World. In the Summer he competes in a tournament bass fishing league, which has become a new favorite. In the Fall you can usually find him in a tree stand, tucked away in a remote part of the woods with his bow, in search of whitetail deer. And in the snowy winter months, Blake has been known on more than one occasion to declare a powder day, in which case you will find him somewhere on the mountain, seeking out fresh lines with his snowboard.
Everett started with New School Builders in May of 2014. His passions in life include farming, fishing, hiking, canoeing, snowboarding and spending time with his dog Loki. Everett started in the trades 10 yrs ago as a stone mason where he honed in a unique skill for constructing dry lay stone arches. While Everett attended college he worked as a builder remodeling, restoring and building custom homes in Burlington, VT and Nantucket, MA. Through the years of working in the trades Everett has developed specialty skills in wood strip boat and tree house construction.
Growing up in central Vermont Tanner was exposed to the importance of hard work but also the concept of reward in the form of their family home built by his father. Watching and learning the old school approach to constructing a home while at the same time chiming in to say “Hey dad, what about this?,” was the theme of his adolescence. After spending several years in Alaska and earning a degree, Tanner and his wife-to-be headed back home to the east coast to start a career and a family. Now, he and his wife Kara have a beautiful house of their own in Moretown, VT, and a family starting. Although big vision builds and renovations are a mainstay he sees his true calling in fine woodworking, a skill and practice slowly being lost in the industry.
Pat was born and raised in the Mad River Valley and now resides in Moretown with his wife and two kids. Pat has worked as a carpenter since 2003 and has worked with companies such as Brothers Building and Turtle Creek Builders. In his spare time he enjoys playing music and working in ministry. He has a passion for helping others and brings that to every project he is involved with.
Travis grew up on a job site. His father was a successful custom home builder and was Blake’s first introduction to the trades. Travis learned early on that a good work ethic would carry him far. Travis has worked for several different high end home builders over the years and has gleaned a lot of different techniques and approaches to tackle problems that come up. Travis is a great addition to our team and has a high level of pride in his workmanship. When Travis is not at work he finds great joy in raising his daughter and spending time outdoors.
Will, like all of our other employees, brings a lot of experience in different arenas to our team. Will was a certified welder. He then switched paths and started working for a master plumber and spent several years learning a lot about heating and plumbing. Will is one of those guys that you show him how to do something once and he gets it. He is a skilled carpenter, mechanic, welder, plumber, and mason. He is dubbed our sergeant at arms and is our go to guy for the really odd stuff that needs an outside perspective and a can do anything attitude. Will lives in Fayston and is almost always working on some project whether at work, for a friend or in his free time.
